Hydroelectric Power

Georgia Power Dams

Georgia has 20 hydroelectric dams all over the state.  They provide low-cost electricity, and the energy supplies 2 million homes.  Since 1999 Georgia Power has invested more than One billion dollars in the production of hydroelectric dams.  They have also been an active participant in the U.S Department of Energy's Clean Coal Technoligy Program.  Hydroelectric power was once the main source of power in the U.S. Electricity Industry.  These facilities played a major role in starting Georgia's industrial develpment, and still produces power today.  In 2009, only 2 percent of all energy was hydroelectric.
